Ways to keep in touch and support Unlock's work

Unlock’s work is about Christian Mission, urgently focussed on bringing the God’s Good News to those who have often been ignored as unimportant, here, on our own doorsteps, in our own UK cities. Traditional urban communities are one of the few places remaining in British culture where there is still a degree of respect for the Christian Faith, but those very communities have not had opportunities to explore that faith for themselves, because church style and language are inappropriate for their culture and just put people off. Unlock works to plug this gap, by providing urban communities with ways of exploring faith that are designed specifically for them, and meet their particular needs. With 30 years of experience and expertise, we train, pay, and resource workers in city locations, we offer our insights and experience to others working in urban mission, we make resources available, free of charge, to anyone who wants to use them in their work of developing discipleship.

Unlock is a small organisation, every minute we spend searching for funding is time taken away from resourcing our frontline work with urban churches. We need financial support of all kinds to keep us working effectively.

Urgent!

Unlock some money –

will you donate to secure the future of Unlock’s work?

We have a serious deficit in 2009 that means we can't continue in 2010 without some major cuts. The reality is that we are already such a tiny outfit that there is really nothing we can cut without it having a serious impact on our frontline work, which is at such an exciting stage, as you can see from the stories of Unlock work scattered throughout this website. 2009 walk sponsorship and donations have only reached £22,000. It was a great walk and there were plenty of people on it, but income is down £3,500 on 2008 and over £6,000 on 2007. Unlock relies heavily on income from the Unlock London walk to fund our work. We've been trying hard but it is very difficult to secure other types of funding, because we are directly engaged in Christian Mission. If you are a supporter who could help us financially, or if you are a walker who has not yet sent in your sponsor money, or are able to give a little bit more to support Unlock’s work, please do so. Unlock local projects are achieving great things, bringing the gospel to people that the churches haven’t been able to reach; and we have more on the way! But we do urgently need your financial support in order to go on doing that. If you are able to do that regularly by standing order, and gift aid it, that's great, but we are a widow's might type of organisation and every little helps.  And pray anyway; we need some financial unlocking.  Thank you.

Churches

Would your church consider pledging to give a percentage of it's giving income to Unlock annally for several years, or even for just one year? Regular, pledged giving, from churches, gives us relaiable income which allows us to plan our work for the months and years ahead.  Contact the National Office if you think this might be a possibility. We can send you further information about Unlock's work, or possibly arrange to come and do a presentation for your church.

Giving via Everyclick
Search for Unlock on the Everyclick webpage and follow the simple process to make an online donation using a credit or debit card via their secure server.
Your donation will be collected and distributed to Unlock by Charities Trust, including a 28% Gift Aid on qualifying donations.  100% of your donation through Everyclick will go to Unlock.  Donations made through Everyclick are processed in real time by their payment partner Charities Trust (Charity Reg No 327489).  Funds will be transferred by Charities Trust to Unlock at the end of every month. Charities Trust automatically reclaim Gift Aid on all qualifying donations made by UK taxpayers which means that an additional 28% will go to Unlock. Help wanted

Volunteers are needed to represent Unlock at the churches on the route of the Unlock walk on Saturday April 24th 2010. Volunteers will be fully briefed and be provided with an Unlock staff T shirt. You can still be sponsored for the hours you spend staffing the walk. If you would like to support Unlock in this way please contact the Unlock national office.

Unlock London Walk History

We are very grateful to all those who support Unlock through our London walk. Your contributions make our work possible.

As well as raising over half of the money that we need to fund our work each year, our sponsored walk is intended to raise the awareness of Christians from often more affluent areas of the UK to the potential (and problems) of urban churches.

The walk's circular route visits several church checkpoints, representing a variety of denominations. Members of each church community are encouraged to be available to welcome walkers and a factsheet is provided.

We hope that as a result of each walk, practical links will be forged between urban and suburban churches.

Unlock, by various names, has been around for nearly 40 years trying to help (mainly) urban Christians to understand and share their faith appropriately. Our life experience matters; our stories; our joys and sorrows. The Bible has plenty to say - more than we'll ever know - about our lives if we know how to read it and apply it... if we know how to UNLOCK it!

Support Stories

Great Dunmow

Late in 2005 we were approached by the Church at Great Dunmow in Essex, and invited to attend their monthly Sunday afternoon meeting, to talk about Unlock's work, and the walk. Two of our Council members went along and were made welcome, and given a generous donation for Unlock's work on the spot. Following that we were very encouraged and inspired when Great Dunmow Church brought one of the largest contingents to the 2006 Walk in London and raised £1054.50 in sponsorship.

St Lawrence, Heanor has pledged 1%of its income for 2006 & 2007 to Unlock.

Dagnall Street Baptist Church in St Albans have supported the work of Unlock by taking part in the London walks.  They have now decided to support us through their 2008 gift day.

Let us know what your church, or group, is doing to support Unlock and we will post your story here.

Staff are available to come and speak to local churches and groups about Unlock's work. Contact the National Office.

2008 Unlock London Walk

Almost 800 people turned out on a dullish day in Chelsea and East Fulham on Saturday the 19th of April 2007 to support Unlock's work by taking part in the (25th) Unlock London Walk.

> walk 25 2008 cover >>

> walk 25 2008 map>>

> walk 26 2009 cover >>

> walk 26 2009 map side >>

“The rich on the river-front, and the  poor behind”.

the walk included parts of Chelsea and East Fulham on the North side of the Thames, and Battersea on South side, taking in 3 Thames bridges, (Wandsworth; Battersea; & Prince Albert). It encompased incredible  juxtapositions of rich and poor, much more evident now than in 1987, when the walk last explored this area.  Indescribably luxurious glass buildings (flats) along the waterfront, with posh restaurants built in, and then, right behind, almost within a stone’s throw, really poor estates, from 60’s/70’s. It is a pattern that keeps repeating, on both river banks.

Places of interest:  King’s Rd Chelsea, renowned for smart shops is there, also Cheyne Walk, with all the blue plaques and lovely houses. On the South side, Battersea Park boating lakes are famous, and the  Peace Pagoda –where peace rallies are held, overlooking the river. Old Battersea village and Battersea church  are very historic (1157)  where Turner painted sunsets looking over the  water.
